Season Three Episode One FAQ of Kindred Spirits
I’m back! The FAQ for Season Three, Episode One was such a hit, I’ve decided to make this a regular thing so welcome to Season Three Episode One FAQ. It’s a great chance to answer questions for some eagle eyed viewers out there and let’s face it – you just can’t fit every bit of a four day investigation into a 44 minute episode. So – here we go!
What about Brady’s room?
Let me start by saying, that Brady really drove us this investigation. When he talked to us in his room, and he was clearly so distraught, we held that with us as our motivation to get answers for this family. Clearly, Sharon is the one who asked us for help, but Brady being comfortable was a huge deal to us. I just wanted to scoop him up in a hug on so many occasions while we were there, but he was definitely a little wary of us. But by the end, I think I had properly wooed him with peanut butter cups that I was able to get a high five.
We investigated Brady’s room right off the bat and uncovered a “no” EVP. But other than that, we really didn’t have any activity in there. We actually spent a good amount of time with him in the reveal explaining that his room was totally safe and that we had nothing go on in there. We really do think his loved ones who had passed away were reaching out to him, but that him asking them to stop was enough for them to do just that.
How can you undo 30 years of negativity in one night?
The time we spent in the extra room with Sharon was clearly a lot longer than what was shown. When she bought that house, her dream for that room was actually to take in a couple of foster children – and she still wants to do that. I explained to her that those kids are out there right now. That the only thing stopping them from entering her life and getting the ultimate help they need was that she was hanging on to this idea that there was negativity in that space. We did a visualization technique where she saw the room bright and cheery, with laughing children and filled with love. She really latched on to that idea – because the idea that those children are already out there needing help is a powerful one. She’s so selfless – once she realized that this power was affecting someone other than her she went full force against giving that space anymore negative thoughts. We told her that every time she felt that creeping in, to instantly go back to the vision of kids in that room, being helped and how much good will come from that one little space. It’s working – she is pretty active on my Facebook and responds to fan questions on there. She’s joined many of our families online who are our fiercest defenders when people attack us social media, ha!
Is Chip for real?
Oh yes, my friends. Chip is very for real. When we have him come into a case, we bring him in blind. Meaning, we fly him in and we don’t see him before the case. He stays at a hotel outside of what ever town we’re investigating. A crew member picks him up and brings him to the location, which he has zero prior knowledge of. Before he enters the home, we take down everything identifying that we can – photos, mementos, diplomas, you name it.
It’s hard for us to keep a poker face, as probably evidenced in this episode. Because we can see when he is spot on and we have to pretend it’s no big deal. I will say, it’s also sometimes hard as a friend because he’ll say, “Hey Amy, I’m getting a vibe from you – want me to tell you?” I usually cave and say yes and he’s almost always right.
I think that’s all for now everyone! Please keep telling your friends about the show! This next episode we head t one of our favorite places – GETTYSBURG!
Click here for a behind the scenes interview with Adam and me about this episode. Travel Channel runs these every week online and they’re a DO NOT MISS!
Click here to listen to a really fun podcast that’s been doing a recap of the show each week. Hopefully they continue to say nice things – promise we’re not paying them!
Thanks for everything! Please keep watching and don’t hesitate to ask us the hard questions, we always have an answer!
Blog Update
Finally, I’m back!
Well everyone, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted a blog. To be truthful, once Kindred Spirits went into production, my life became so insane, I ended up taking my web site down entirely because I just couldn’t keep up.
We’re in between seasons right now and the sleepy days of summer have hit New England in a big way, so I finally decided to get this thing up and running again. Some updates to my life in this blog update!
First, I’m still happily living in New England with my little family which consists of the Mister, our five-year-old daughter, Charlotte – and our always dopey basset hound, Zoe.
Most of my time is spent being a Mom. I’m very fortunate that owning my own business, (www.strange-escapes.com), allows me to make my own hours. I travel a lot by most folks’ standards, but it’s still usually just a few days once or twice a month and the rest of the time I’m home. I also spend time in my little office in Rhode Island when Charlotte is in school.
Lots of people ask about Kindred Spirits. We are now on Travel Channel after having moved networks twice before. Thankfully, we’ve always had the same wonderful team of folks at Discovery Networks and they are behind the show 100%. Discovery and Scripps had a huge merger that we’ve been sort of caught in the middle of the last year, but we’re pretty confident we’ll be gracing your screen in some way, shape or form very soon! In the meantime, Kindred Spirits is in heavy rotation on Travel Channel, so make sure to check it out on Friday nights at 11!
As always, thank you so much for all of your support over the years. I will do my best to keep this blog update relatively updated. I do have lots to share, just not always the time to do it!
Happy summer, everyone!
Why We Are Leaving Ghost Hunters
My Departure from Ghost Hunters
Adam and I have been receiving a lot of questions and interest about our decision to not return to Ghost Hunters for Season 10. So, I wanted to go into further detail for folks and also have a place to send those looking for answers to these most frequently asked questions. 🙂
Why did you and Adam choose to leave Ghost Hunters?
I can’t completely speak for Adam – but for me, at the end of season 9, I was tired. I had been leaving home every week to every other week and the show had become a job. A job that I was not thrilled to be going to any longer. Financially, it was taking a toll on us as well as emotionally. When my daughter took her first steps while I was away filming, that was a wake up call for me.
I love investigating and did it well before the cameras rolled on me and I still continue to investigate. So the show, while it afforded me AMAZING experiences, friendships and the name to continue doing what I do, was no longer feasible for me. I don’t regret any of it and it has led me to everything I have now, but it was time for me to move on and be home.
What are you doing now?
I started a haunted travel company called Strange Escapes. We organize vacations to some of the most haunted places in the world. I love being able to take those with an interest in the paranormal and spend a few days educating them and investigating with them. I bring in authors, lecturers and fellow paranormal TV stars and we make these trips unforgettable.
I make my own hours and when I do travel, I can bring the family along if I choose. Learn more about it here: www.strange-escapes.com
Adam and his husband, Ben, are some of the most talented people I know and have been instrumental in starting an awesome non-profit theater company in Provincetown, MA. Check it out at peregrinetheatre.com.
Will you and Adam be on television again?
We have had many offers and a lot of interest. Since we chose to leave Ghost Hunters, we were contractually obligated to not star in a paranormal television show for a time after our last episode aired. While we are open to a new television opportunity it would have to be very special, and accommodate our schedules, families, etc.
Another cast member has been insinuating via social media that you were “fired” or “released” from Ghost Hunters. Is that true?
No. We’re not sure why that person has chosen to say such things, especially since he was in no way involved with our negotiations, (those are between us and the production company.) We were once close friends, so I can only assume maybe someone internally is giving him misinformation.
I hate to see someone spreading falsehoods, but I can go on record, as has my lawyer – that not only were we not fired or released, but we have all of it documented and in writing and would be happy to present it in court if ever necessary. Our last filming date with the production was February 3, 2014 and we declined our option for further seasons on May 9, 2014. Our last episode aired on October 28, 2014.
Normally, I don’t address rumors, but I’ve had too many parents come to me asking for advice on leaving a steady paycheck to be home with their family more and how to make it work. That decision was not one I made lightly, and to have people try to devalue that by spreading a silly lie is not only offensive, but hurtful.
You say the travel was hard, yet I see you traveling all the time?
When we were filming, I left weekly for a few days at a time. Now, I am gone one to two weekends a month and I usually know well in advance what my schedule is. Also, I bring my daughter on many of these trips as well. It has definitely been much easier!
Travel and ghosts are the two hobbies I’m most passionate about. How fortunate am I to have been able to combine the two?
Let me just end this by stressing how thankful I am for my time on Ghost Hunters. Not only was I able to investigate and research some of the most haunted places in the world – but the experiences and friendships I made on the road made me into the person I am today. I will be forever grateful to Grant, Jason, Pilgrim Films and SyFy for forcing me out of my comfort zone and taking me on the road with GH so many years ago. It set me down a path that led me straight to my cozy little life here in New England.
Sometimes, my life feels like a dream or a movie and I ask myself, “Did this all really happen?” It did. And there’s so much more to come.
xoxoxo,

The Idea Behind Laser Grid Use in Paranormal Investigations
People often ask me how to employ the laser grid in paranormal investigation. Below is the write-up I did on them, which I include with every order of a grid. If you’d like to try them out in your investigations (or give your cat the toy of its life), they are available in my store on this website.
Like most tools used in paranormal investigation, the laser grid was not designed specifically for hunting ghosts. These were originally used in laser light shows but have been adapted for ghost hunting with a fairly simple theory in mind. Understanding the concept behind laser grid use can significantly enhance your investigations:
Creating a spray of lasers in an area where shadow figures or apparitions have been reported makes the shadow figures and/or apparitions more apparent if they do manifest. It virtually eliminates cases of your “eyes playing tricks on you.” This is one of the primary benefits of laser grid use.
Tips For Laser Grid Use
- The laser grid works best when set stationary somewhere. Adjust the “spray” according to the area you are trying to cover.
- Secure the on/off switch to “on” by taping it down with gaffer’s tape or using a rubber band (I use elastic hair ties). There are laser grid tripods on the market; I avoid them as they tend to damage the on/off switch over time.
- Ideally, have an IR or full-spectrum camera pointed in the same direction as the lasers, so if an anomaly is seen, you will have captured it as potential evidence.
- The lasers virtually eliminate instances of your “eyes playing tricks on you.” The most common report in the field is that shadow figures envelop the lasers, causing them to disappear or distort as they pass through. When a live person steps into the grid, it’s quite obvious. Proper laser grid use helps in distinguishing between real apparitions and optical illusions.
Troubleshooting Laser Grid Use
- My laser won’t turn on and the batteries are new. Check the spring inside the grid and make sure it’s stretched out a bit. Sometimes the connection inside just isn’t happening.
- My laser is dimming and the batteries are new. Make sure you’ve secured the button well enough. Also, if it’s cold, the grids tend to fade in and out. When we’ve used them in below-zero temperatures, we’ve had to wrap them in hand warmers.
- I have put new batteries in each laser. However, during shipping, they sometimes turn on and off, so apologies if the batteries are dead by the time they reach you!
CAUTION
These lasers are in the legal 5MW range, but looking directly at them or shining them in someone’s eyes can still cause headaches, injury, etc. They’re not toys.
Good luck and happy hunting with your laser grid use!
