My Departure from Ghost Hunters
Adam and I have been receiving a lot of questions and interest about our decision to not return to Ghost Hunters for Season 10. So, I wanted to go into further detail for folks and also have a place to send those looking for answers to these most frequently asked questions. 🙂
Why did you and Adam choose to leave Ghost Hunters?
I can’t completely speak for Adam – but for me, at the end of season 9, I was tired. I had been leaving home every week to every other week and the show had become a job. A job that I was not thrilled to be going to any longer. Financially, it was taking a toll on us as well as emotionally. When my daughter took her first steps while I was away filming, that was a wake up call for me.
I love investigating and did it well before the cameras rolled on me and I still continue to investigate. So the show, while it afforded me AMAZING experiences, friendships and the name to continue doing what I do, was no longer feasible for me. I don’t regret any of it and it has led me to everything I have now, but it was time for me to move on and be home.
What are you doing now?
I started a haunted travel company called Strange Escapes. We organize vacations to some of the most haunted places in the world. I love being able to take those with an interest in the paranormal and spend a few days educating them and investigating with them. I bring in authors, lecturers and fellow paranormal TV stars and we make these trips unforgettable.
I make my own hours and when I do travel, I can bring the family along if I choose. Learn more about it here: www.strange-escapes.com
Adam and his husband, Ben, are some of the most talented people I know and have been instrumental in starting an awesome non-profit theater company in Provincetown, MA. Check it out at peregrinetheatre.com.
Will you and Adam be on television again?
We have had many offers and a lot of interest. Since we chose to leave Ghost Hunters, we were contractually obligated to not star in a paranormal television show for a time after our last episode aired. While we are open to a new television opportunity it would have to be very special, and accommodate our schedules, families, etc.
Another cast member has been insinuating via social media that you were “fired” or “released” from Ghost Hunters. Is that true?
No. We’re not sure why that person has chosen to say such things, especially since he was in no way involved with our negotiations, (those are between us and the production company.) We were once close friends, so I can only assume maybe someone internally is giving him misinformation.
I hate to see someone spreading falsehoods, but I can go on record, as has my lawyer – that not only were we not fired or released, but we have all of it documented and in writing and would be happy to present it in court if ever necessary. Our last filming date with the production was February 3, 2014 and we declined our option for further seasons on May 9, 2014. Our last episode aired on October 28, 2014.
Normally, I don’t address rumors, but I’ve had too many parents come to me asking for advice on leaving a steady paycheck to be home with their family more and how to make it work. That decision was not one I made lightly, and to have people try to devalue that by spreading a silly lie is not only offensive, but hurtful.
You say the travel was hard, yet I see you traveling all the time?
When we were filming, I left weekly for a few days at a time. Now, I am gone one to two weekends a month and I usually know well in advance what my schedule is. Also, I bring my daughter on many of these trips as well. It has definitely been much easier!
Travel and ghosts are the two hobbies I’m most passionate about. How fortunate am I to have been able to combine the two?
Let me just end this by stressing how thankful I am for my time on Ghost Hunters. Not only was I able to investigate and research some of the most haunted places in the world – but the experiences and friendships I made on the road made me into the person I am today. I will be forever grateful to Grant, Jason, Pilgrim Films and SyFy for forcing me out of my comfort zone and taking me on the road with GH so many years ago. It set me down a path that led me straight to my cozy little life here in New England.
Sometimes, my life feels like a dream or a movie and I ask myself, “Did this all really happen?” It did. And there’s so much more to come.
xoxoxo,
